Four out of Five Health Workers Missing in Aceh, Indonesia
January 17, 2005

The province of Aceh was the worst-hit region in Indonesia. And thus that is the region that most needs health professionals to care for the innumerable people who were injured from the tsunami; but four out of five health workers are missing because of the tsunami.
Of the 400 health workers employed in the province before the tsunami, only 82 have been accounted for. Over 150 doctors are missing.
And although there has not been an outbreak of a major illness, the danger still exists, and the low number of health care workers would quickly be overwhelmed if such an outbreak occurred.
