Parliament members in India are considering offering long-term financial
support for children orphaned by the Asian tsunami.
The money would come from members of Parliament themselves. A trust fund would be established and members of Parliament would carefully monitor deposits and purchases.
Parlament members would pay for food, lodging, and education for the children.
Thousands of orphans would be helped if the proposal is realized.
"We are discussing it. If we can do it, it will definitely be very helpful," said Praliamen member Somnath Chatterjee.
