Tsunami aid contributions now total $6.28 billion, according to the United Nations.
The United States is the top donor with a pledge of $950 million; Australia is second with a five-year commitment of $765 million (in US currency; $1 billion in Australian currency); and Germany is third with a total of $683 million.
The announcement of the $6.28 billion total was made by a U.N. representative in a news conference in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
