Michael Mangal, a tsunami victim who was stranded for a month on an island in India’s Andaman and Nicobar archipelago, was rescued on January 22nd.
Mangal was spotted after waving a flag that he made from his clothes.
About one month earlier, on December 26, 2004, he was pulled into the ocean by the first tsunami wave, but he was later pushed back ashore by an even larger wave.
He was the only person from his village to survive.
Stranded and alone on his small, flat, and barren island, he survived on coconuts until he was rescued.
